Lavochkin LA-7

Owned and operated by Bernie Jones

This Model is from the Scale Wings production line, sadly no longer available. The kit is fully composite construction, design and construction started in 2005 and the first production kits were produced in 2007 with test flights in August that year. There were two production models produced both to the same high standard, the smaller one having a wingspan of 85 Inches and 1:3.5 scale and the model displayed at 111 inches and 1:3.5 scale.

The Lavochkin LA-7 was a development of the LA-5, the first flights made during December 1943 and production started in March 1944. In total some 5753 LA-7’s were built and well liked by the pilots that flew them, they were very successful against the German aircraft they came up against. As well as the Russian Air force, the LA-7 was also flown by the Czechoslovak Air Force and remained is service with them up to 1950.

The Model represents the Aircraft “White 10” the aircraft is an early Gor’ki built LA-7 but had been upgraded with the later rear canopy and later radio mast arrangement, the camouflage was broadly the NKAP style, but with a one off all over placement, including the white nose which was not seen on any other LA-7. The fin carried a small anchor logo which suggested a navel connection, possibly attributed to the Baltic fleet, this will have to be subject to more research to properly identify this striking LA-7 example

.

The model is flown using Jeti DC24 Mk2 and Jeti Central box 320 powered by Jeti PowerIon Batteries, running 2 x 2.4Ghz receivers and 1 x 868Mhz with a mixture of Jeti/Hacker Ditex servos and electronic main gear. The motor is a Fiala/Valach 250cc 5 Cylinder radial with a Fiala scale 30x18 3 blade propeller. This set up makes for a great sounding and realistic looking model with a great flight envelope.
